Illinois: State Police Investigate Claims of Improper Teacher-Student Relationship

Blair Simmons,
WPSD NewsChannel 6

Illinois State Police are looking into claims that a teacher had an improper relationship with a student. The investigation involves a teacher at Anna-Jonesboro High School in Union County, Illinois.

Everyone is talking about it - and several versions of the story are floating around town. But exactly what may have happened between the male teacher and female student isn't clear.

State Police have confirmed that they, along with the Union County State's Attorney's office are looking into this. They say they are "investigating complaints against a teacher at a Union County high school."

When we asked school Superintendent, Bill Schildknecht, if any of his staff had been suspended from Anna-Jonesboro High School, he issued a short statement: "No Comment." Saying his lawyer advised him not to speak.

...But news travels fast in a small town... and so do rumors.

The incident allegedly happened at Anna-Jonesboro High School. Now the rumor around school is that Illinois State Police came into class and arrested a teacher in front of students -- but State Police say it's just a rumor - they haven't made any arrests.

Parents of students who go to the school say police have confiscated the teacher's computer. They say at least three female students have complained about "improper advances" by the teacher.

State Police would not comment.

Last year, a Driver's Education teacher at Marion High School was accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student. After the investigation, Kyle Barton was charged with aggravated battery and unlawful restraint.
