APRIL CSD #1 LEGAL BILL

Did you read my CATty comment in the April 14th edition of CAT Tracks...the article in which Marion School Board Members were upset over their high legal fees?

Did you think that maybe I exaggerated?

Check out the page below from this month's "Open Accounts Payable List" for Cairo School District Number One...the first one that the "new" Cairo Board of Education will have to approve! (Hey...they have no choice! It's for legal services already rendered!!!)

Robbins, Schwartz, Nicholas gets a cool $20,163.79! (Sanders and Sanders chipped in with $823.50.)

So Cairo School District Number One will shell out $20,987.29 of legal fees in April, 2007! And, folks, this is NOT an "annual" payment...it is pay-as-you-go.

ONE MONTH at $20,987.29...and the Marion School District (with a budget and resources that far exceeds CSD #1) is bemoaning paying "$167,000 in legal fees over the last FOUR YEARS"?!

As they say...things that make you go hmmmmmm... (Actually, I would rephrase that...things that make you go @#$%!)

If we have THAT kind of money to pay lawyers, then we must be in better financial shape than we thought.

(Wonder why we had that big ROE/FOP meeting back in November? Remember...when they brought in all the charts with the declining enrollment and loss of ADA...and how we were facing a financial crisis? Did I dream all of that? Somebody help me out here...)

Read 'em and weep...
