Dollar General awards $2,000 youth literacy grant to Emerson Elementary

Dollar General has awarded Emerson Elementary in Cairo, Ill., a $2,000 Youth Literacy Grant.

The Dollar General Youth Literacy Grant provides funding to schools, public libraries and nonprofit organizations for the implementation or expansion of literacy programs.

“Learning to read is a critical building block for a solid education and a brighter future,” said Rick Dreiling, Dollar General’s CEO. “Dollar General is committed to supporting the schools and organizations that are helping children master this important skill. We commend Emerson Elementary for its efforts in helping children further their education through reading.”

Emerson Elementary is one of 249 organizations to receive this grant from Dollar General in 2008. Dollar General awarded 100 Youth Literacy Grants in spring 2008 and 149 in fall 2008.
