SCHOOL REOPENS

Late breaking news...

Evidently there is to be a meeting (of emergency folks) at 8:30 tonight where there will be discussion of whether or not to go ahead with the opening of school. Klondike is still without power and Bennett is a designated shelter.

Original post is below...but is cast into doubt by this latest news.

You might want to watch the news at 10 p.m.

Postscript: As of 11 p.m., no new word on CSD #1...

So, to play it safe, you best act according to the original post from the Head Administrator...that school WILL resume on Monday.

Postscript II: As of 12:30 a.m. Monday, no new word on CSD #1...

The old history teacher in me did prompt a "midnight ride". There was activity at Bennett Elementary, which has been serving as a shelter for victims of Winter Storm 2009. This is pure speculation, but the activity appeared to this observor to be of the "closing up" variety...possibly to clear the way for students, staff, and teachers - i.e. the reopening of school.

So...if you don't get the "official call" in the wee morning hours, you had best assume that school is in session.

With that, I'm done for the night/morning...

Original Post:

Enquiring CATs were wanting to know...is school going to resume on Monday?

After many such inquiries, CAT President De De O'Shea got busy.

When lower levels of the chain of command were unable to provide an answer, President O'Shea picked up the "red phone" and called the superintendent.

It's official...straight from the Head Administrator...

Cairo Public Schools WILL be open Monday morning at the regular time.
