Man accused of striking, binding 92-year-old woman

CAIRO, IL (KFVS) - Cairo Police arrested a man accused of hitting a 92-year-old woman and binding her hands, feet, and mouth.
Police responded to a call Wednesday morning, but the home invasion happened Tuesday about 3:30 p.m. at a home in the 200 block of 16th Street.
A 92-year-old woman was struck several times and her hands, feet and mouth were bound, according to the Cairo Police Department.
The woman was taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Formal charges are expected to be filed Thursday morning

CAIRO, IL (KFVS) - Cairo Police arrested a man accused of hitting a 92-year-old woman and binding her hands, feet, and mouth.
Police responded to a call Wednesday morning, but the home invasion happened Tuesday about 3:30 p.m. at a home in the 200 block of 16th Street.
A 92-year-old Callie Callahan, a retired school teacher, was struck several times and her hands, feet and mouth were bound, according to the Cairo Police Department.
Callahan was taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Police arrested 52-year-old Willie Mitchell Williams, of Klondike Illinois on charges of home invasion and burglary.

Alexander Co. Man Accused Of Beating Elderly Woman

CAIRO -- 52 year old Willie Mitchell Williams made his first appearance in Alexander County court Thursday afternoon and walked right in front of Joseph Hardaway, who came from St. Louis to see the man who allegedly beat his aunt.
"You know you just can't fathom why anyone would do this because everybody loved Aunt Callie," said Hardaway, describing the woman who raised him since he was eight years old.
Cairo Police say on Tuesday afternoon Williams broke into Callahan's house on the two hundred block of 16th street, bound her feet, hands and mouth and then punched her several times. He's also accused of stealing her flat screen tv.
Because the victim is elderly prosecutors are asking for a tougher penalty, if he's convicted Williams could face up to 60 years in prison. He's being held on 250 thousand dollars bond. A price he admitted in court he can't pay which means he'll likely remain in jail for the duration of this case.
Williams's sister says her brother is Bi-polar and Schizophrenic but refuses to commit himself.
Hardaway left Alexander County to be by his aunt's side in a Cape Girardeau hospital. He says he'll be back for every court appearance until a conviction is made.
"He really got nothing but time out of this all of this for nothing," said Hardaway.
Williams will be back in court May 4th. Callahan is at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, relatives say she is still recovering but that she is responsive.
