LIKE A VIRGIN

Cairo Superintendent of Schools Leotis D. Swopes...

Okay, loyal readers...

...have I got your attention, please?

Nah...

No local sexcapades to report. (I didn't say none existed, just none to report.)

This is just another case of the CAT Tracks editor living down to the Superintendent's low expectations...taking liberties with the facts to heighten emotion!

"Like A Virgin"...a mega hit by Madonna back in the day, providing me with a gratuitous headline tease to capture the imagination.

I read the news today, oh boy...

Well, I'm sorry for the girls in Malawi, but the story was actually a relief. Speaking of headlines:

Madonna’s Charity Fails in Bid to Finance School

I mean...

Holy Mary Mother of God, freaking Madonna is climbing aboard the "Let's reform public education" train...creating charter schools...bashing teachers and teachers' unions. Well, hell...

Well, actually, no...

Malawi.

...not the United States.

Okay, okay...my bad.

The constant, withering attacks have taken their toll on my psyche...my nerves. Paranoia has set in. But...for damn good reason! Folks ARE out to get teachers...trying to fire the active, trying to snatch pension checks out of the frail hands of the retired.

Speaking of heightened emotions...

Oh, yes, where was I...

Cairo Superintendent of Schools Leotis D. Swopes.

Ron...

Why think of him whilst reading an article about the failed attempt by the "Material Girl" to do good in an impoverished nation?

Why I'm glad you asked...

Impoverished nation...impoverished city, impoverished school district...Cairo School District Number One.

One paragraph from the article about Madonna's efforts in Malawi...focusing on the reason for the failure:

Its executive director, who is the boyfriend of Madonna’s former trainer, Tracy Anderson, left in October amid criticism of his management style and cost overruns for the school. These included what auditors described as outlandish expenditures on salaries, cars, office space and a golf course membership, free housing and a car and driver for the school’s director.

Outlandish expenditures for the school's director. Things like:

  • A golf course membership

  • Free housing

See...

Not much of a mental leap at all!

The link to the original story is below, but I've already milked it for all its "heightened emotion", so you can actually leave now.

I mean...

So many CAT Tracks, so little time!
