SPECIAL BOE MEETING...MINUTES

The Cairo Board of Education held a Special Meeting on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. for the purpose of discussing pending litigation and collective bargaining issues. Below are some comments to serve as "minutes"...

The meeting was called to order at 6 p.m. with all members present except Mr. Brown.

No one asked to be recognized to speak to the BOE. (One group of visitors confirmed that they would be allowed to speak in closed session.)

A motion was made, seconded, and passed to approve the agenda. (See below...there were no changes.)

The BOE voted to enter closed session at 6:02 p.m. The BOE voted to exit closed session at 7:24 p.m.

Interim Superintendent Justin Miller announced that the BOE was going to table the "Dismissal of Employee". In response to a follow up question, Mr. Miller indicated that the tabling was until further notice. (CAT Tracks Editor's Note: This is NOT a disciplinary matter, but concerns an employee who has been on leave due to temporary medical disability.)

Mr. Miller announced that the "Resolution For Clearwave Communications" was also being tabled.

In a refreshing demonstration of conscientiousness, BOE President Artie McBride informed the audience that the BOE was going to go back into closed session...that they had voted to exit closed session to make their "tabling announcement" so that the people involved would not have to sit out in the hall waiting.

The BOE voted to re-enter closed session at 7:26 p.m. The BOE voted to exit closed session at 8:18 p.m.

There were some discussions about some upcoming workshops and training sessions for BOE members...some involving Dr. Rice from the Illinois Association of School Boards. (One on either February 28th or 29th from 6-8 p.m., another on March 10th, and a third meeting TBA.

A motion was made, seconded, and passed to adjourn at 8:23 p.m.
