LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE

...is a well-known saying.

It's the purrfect lead-in to the article below about laughter and personal well-being.

I mean...

...READ THE ARTICLE!!!

A snippet...the last sentence of the second paragraph:

Folks, after reading the article below, no doubt remains:

About my humor...

I've oft qualified my attempts at humor as "it's better to laugh than cry."

And, yes, my humor is that which would probably be categorized as "gallows humor"...

...but with 39 years of teaching (including 20 years as union "messenger") in Cairo School District Number One - being at the mercy and whim of assorted Superintendents and School Boards - well, my spirit has died more than a cat's alloted nine. My repeated resurrection can be directly attributed to my ability to find a humorous way of looking at senseless, tragic events.

About last night...

Well, the joint BOE-FOP meeting on Friday night did not rise (sink) to the level of tragedy...yet. In fact, I tagged it as a "comedy" (of errors.)

But, folks, it was far from funny at the time. There was no laughter emitted by two "hang-dog" CATs perched on the steps waiting to be readmitted to the circus.

It was only hours later, when I felt compelled to recount the events for loyal readers, that my mind's defensive mechanism evidently kicked in...refusing to be serious, offering catty commentary.

As I told a couple of readers today when they complimented my humor..."It was totally unplanned, unexpected."

When I sat down this morning at the keyboard, my intent was to make a snide comment that I was not going to dignify their mess with minutes. I was then going to simply list the two action items...the hiring of Justin Miller and James Reams. The End!

Then, for better or worse, when my fingers hit the keys:

Dum-Dum-Dum-DUUUM...Dum-Dum-Dum-DUUUM

(You music aficionados recognized the above as the opening of Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony Number 5, First movement: Allegro con brio.)

Okay, I lied...

No, not about Beethoven....but of the notes that emerged from my claws that were a variation on Beethoven's famous "Dum-Dum-Dum-DUUUM".

When my fingers hit the keys, the result was as you read this morning):

DUMB-DUMB-DUMB-DUUUMB...DUMB-DUMB-DUMB-DUUUMB!!!!

And in conclusion...

If I have been able to elicit a smile or a chuckle from you during your repeated trials and tribulations in CSD #1, it has been worth my effort. No need for thanks...it helped me more than it could possibly have helped you.
