THE CAIRO SHOWING

...of "Between Two Rivers" was a rousing success.

There was seating for 156 people, with most of the seats filled by the time the movie began. By the end of the movie, people had lined both sides of the CJSHS cafeteria...with more standing in the back. I'm calling it 175 attendees.

Want more information, talk to your friends and/or neighbors...one or more of them were probably there.

My final comment:

The anthem of the civil rights movement...

"We Shall Overcome"

Watching the completely integrated crowd - both in numbers of each race and in the interspersed seating...

...watching a movie that portrayed the most explosive subject possible (many who either lived it or had family members who did), without the least bit of sugarcoating...

...watching with rapt attention and with no outbursts, except applause at its conclusion.

We Shall Overcome?

It was a long time coming and and the City of Cairo will forever bear the ugly scars of the battle.

However...

...for those in tonight's audience and for so many others remaining physically in or emotionally attached to Cairo...

...maybe we did!

A special "Thank You" to the filmmakers - Jacob Cartwright and Nick Jordan - for documenting Cairo's unique place in history.
