CAT Tracks for February 9, 2012

I can't keep a secret... least for very long!

I finished transferring my stone tablets into an Excel spreadsheet.

I'd ask for a drum roll, but this truly sucks...

Remember the old TV show "The Six Million Dollar Man" starring Lee Majors (back when $6 million dollars was a lot of money?)

No, no, no...

...not even close.

But, for an allegedly "broke" school district in impoverished Southern Illinois, well, it ain't bad.

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Meet James Gibson..."The Two Hundred Thousand Dollar Man"!

$205,805.85 to be exact... far. (As I indicated yesterday, I'm awaiting some clarifications.)

Yep, Cairo School District Number One (all the while crying broke, broke, broke) spent a documented $205,805.85 to Robbins, Schwartz, Nicholas, Lifton & Taylor LTD. to make James Gibson's life hell from October 25, 2005 to December 9, 2011.

Ain't gonna rant and rave any further...

...if you're feeling hot under the collar, go back and read yesterday's Part I.

But, I'll provide a few more details and an exhibit to back up my "allegations".

Governmental bodies (including school districts) base their finances around what is called a "fiscal year". For Cairo School District Number One, that financial year begins on July 1st and runs through June 30th of the following year. (That selection of dates not-so-coincidentally covers the typical school year of late August through late May/early June.)

I mention that because I selected one such fiscal year, one such school year for a closer look at what has transpired for the past 6+ years in CSD #1.

Yeah, it's the good one...the year that James Gibson finally got his day in court (an IELRB hearing held at the end of October, 2009 in a Hampton Inn conference room just outside Carbondale.)

Without further ado...

...the drip, drip, drip, DROWNING of FY2010 (July 1, 2009 - June 30, 2010.)

Yep, Cairo School District Number One spent $89,146.03 to keep James Gibson from working during the 2009-2010 School Year!

There are those out there who think I make this shtuff up...

Immediately below is a link to one of the Robbins et al billing invoices that I acquired through my FOIA request:

November 30, 2009

And for those of you who just really, really, really don't believer a word I type...

Hey, send a letter to CSD #1 (the address is on the invoice) and request your own personal copy (citing FOIA as the basis for your request.) By law, you should receive it within seven days. (I forget whether those are business days or calendar days. I got my whole stack in seven calendar days, so yours should arrive post haste.)

Two final comments:

I can't/don't think of everything.

I e-mailed a friend yesterday with the information presented in this post...

...and, yes, I continued my ranting and raving about the obscene amount of money that the District had spent and was continuing to spend on the James Gibson Case.

My friend very calmly and quietly zapped me right between my eyes and left me speechless.

I had been so focused on crunching numbers, that I failed to notice another monetary issue...another outlay of significant dollars.

As my friend reminded me...

Are you ready for the obvious?

During the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 School Years - FOUR SCHOOL YEARS - Cairo School District Number One paid someone else to do James Gibson's job!!!

Conservatively, that was another $30,000 per year, another $120,000 added to the existing $205,805.85.

You do the math...
