SPECIAL BOE-FOP MEETING...MINUTES

CAT Tracks Editor's Note:

Immediately below are the very brief and informal "minutes" of today's meetings (along with an "I couldn't help myself" catty postscript.) Below that you will find the original post with the notice and agendas.

The respective meetings were called to order and the formalities quickly performed. (All FOP members were present; Brown, Burris, Gooden, and Harris were present for the BOE.)

Motions were made, seconded, and passed to enter closed session at approximately 12:05 p.m.

  • McBride arrived at 12:07 p.m.

  • Moore arrived at 12:09 p.m.

  • The Members of the BOE exited the Board Room and the building at 12:56 p.m., apparently adjourning during the FOP's continuing closed session.

The FOP apparently voted to exit closed session at 1:23 p.m. and the exiles were summoned from the stairs.

A motion was made, seconded, and passed to approve the Cairo BOE's reposting of the Superintendent's position...

...with the comment by FOP President Elizabeth Lewin that "We'll hope they have better luck next time."

Interim Superintendent Justin M. Miller informed the FOP that the BOE had a training session scheduled for this coming Saturday, but that it would be rescheduled.

A motion was made, seconded, and passed to adjourn the FOP meeting at 1:25 p.m.

Catty Postscript:

I would opine that "luck" had nothing to do with not getting the right man for CSD #1 Superintendent. He has been in the District for some time now. He officially did the job during June, 2011. He has officially been doing the job since January 16, 2012. He will continue to do the job until June 30, 2012...

...and then he will be gone, lost (to us) forever.

Instead of hiring Justin Miller, the Cairo Board of Education sent clear signals that his position with the District was in jeopardy. Instead of showing appreciation for a job well done, they made him join the "Dance of the Lemons". With that kind of uncertainly hanging over his future in Cairo, Justin reluctantly applied for an Assistant Superintendent's job in Carbondale...and they snapped him up.

Luck?

Yeah, you could say that...

Carbondale Elementary District 95 lucked out.

You could also say that...

Cairo Unit School District Number One f*cked up!

HIGH NOON

Man With No Name

I'm sorry...

...got movies on my mind.

(CAT Tracks Editor's Note: Before you say anything, I know I have mixed movies...Clint Eastwood was not in High Noon, twas Gary Cooper. More of that "poetic license" thing.)

Back to the movies...

I mean, can you blame me?

A 12 p.m. Special Joint BOE-FOP meeting to discuss the Superintendent's Position for the 2012-2013 School Year - to find the successor to "he who shall remain nameless" - did you not make the same intuitive leap, resulting in abject hopelessness and despair?

Oh, well...

...sigh.

Since I traveled that road - the road to Hell, paved with evil intentions - in the closing to my previous post on this topic, I shall bid you adieu.

Stay tuned...
