SPECIAL BOE MEETING...MINUTES |
The Cairo Board of Education held a special meeting on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. Below is the agenda followed by the "minutes"...
I. Call to Order - 6 p.m.
II. Roll Call - Coleman, Harris, Burris, Gooden, and McBride. (Moore arrived at 6:21 p.m. One seat remains vacant due to the resignation of Danny Brown.)
III. Recognition and Comments from Employees and Public - None. BOE President Artie McBride used this time to announce the BOE's receipt of a plaque for attendance at some conference. (CAT Tracks Editor's Note: Okay, I have since found out that the conference was entitled "Transforming the Paradigm of Educating Children" presented by the Superintendents' Commission for the Study of Demographics and Diversity.)
IV. Approval of Agenda - Special Meeting - Motion made, seconded, and passed.
V. Open Session
CEO/Interim Superintendent Justin M. Miller informed the BOE that nine applicants responded to the re-advertisement for the Superintendent's position of the 2012-2013 School Year. That's nine (9) NEW applicants...does NOT include any of the previous ten applicants. (CAT Tracks Editor's Note: WOW...If one needed proof that we find ourselves in economic hard times, this is it!) Mr. Miller told the BOE members that they were to review the applications tonight and discuss same...that he was taking the applications to the FOP's Special Meeting on Thursday in Carbondale. The BOE was also to discuss the interview process to be used this time around...that the FOP wanted a different procedure this time. One change insisted upon by the FOP was that one of their members be included in the panel that interviews the candidates.
VI. Closed Session - The BOE voted to enter closed session at 6:04 p.m. The BOE voted to exit closed session at 7:55 p.m.
