CHS 1974 Egypti |
CAT Tracks Editor's Note:
Okay, I launched into a sermon as a "footnote" to this posting. Rather than allow my personal ramblings to detract from the positive prelude to the CHS 1974 Egypti, I have separated it.
A new wave of newbies arrives at Cairo High School!
Counting the new Interim Superintendent of CSD #1, the "sweet sixteen"...
...a veritable TSUNAMI!
On a slow news day...
...still in a reflective mood following Friday's departure of six "oldies but goodies". (I can say that...I'm older!)
1974...
A new corps of educators arrives at Cairo High School...as a new post-integration teaching core continues to evolve. (The district administration would probably say "hard core".)
At at time of tremendous turmoil within the City of Cairo, the school district was fortunate indeed...
...that a group of dedicated educators, in it for the long haul, were finding their way to a racially torn city at the southern tip of Illinois. Newbie teachers (black and white) bonded with students craving an education, but just as importantly...craving safety and stability in a city gone mad.
It was indeed the worst of times (for Cairo), but fortunately the best of times for students and teachers focusing on the future while the city struggled with its past.
I feel truly blessed to have been a part of it...
