MORE ON YOUTH-BUILD PROGRAM

Below is an article on the front page of the latest Monday's Pub...

The restoration of another damn "shotgun house"?

Hell...

...maybe it's the same one as last time!

After all, it's had time to deteriorate again...sitting there on 30th and Sycamore, all dressed up and no one to see!

Or...

Maybe it's the other one...that sits next to it on the corner.

Reminds me of the damn Toll House...

Thousands of dollars poured into it to turn it into a restaurant (that closed after a very few months)...

...then thousands of more dollars poured into it, to sit empty, closed even to the people who financed it.

Then, thousands of more dollars poured into it to turn it into a museum.

Over the years...

...so much money poured into Cairo with so little benefit to the residents.

I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

I mean...

...the article says they are going to build a new house. That would be a good thing...if somebody is allowed to buy it and live in it.

Motivating students to get a GED could be a good thing, if they then make use of it.

But...

...putting lipstick on "historical treasures" that fade in sight and from memory soon after the opening ceremonies?

...sucking up grant money that does no one any good, except for the newspaper clippings?

Let's just say that the article below went a long way toward dampening my enthusiam...
