MICHELLE RHEE: RADICAL

Those who can, do...

...those who can't, teach.

Needless to say, I disagree with that adage.

However, one thing that I noticed during my teaching career, as a multitude of education gurus were brought to Cairo to teach CSD #1 teachers how to teach...

Those who can't teach, often become education gurus.

On the local front:

My fellow old-timers will remember when then Superintendent of Cairo Public Schools Ed Armstrong paid for a team of gurus from Mesa Arizona to fly to our little impoverished village on a snowy in-service day. Yes, we rolled our eyes, but we were polite. (That's why teachers catch so much sh*t. We tend to be folks who give those in a position of authority the benefit of the doubt, respect even...even when they don't deserve it.) A few years later, the truth came out about Mesa...they got caught in their own cheating scandal. We who laugh last, laugh best...

On a national scale:

Michelle Rhee

Michelle Rhee is the epitome of the bad teacher that she has committed her post-teaching career to identifying and eliminating.

But, wait!

Before I trash her, let me present a glowing review of her new book "Radical":

From the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette...

'Radical': Education reformer Michelle Rhee argues that tough love is best

As the opening paragraph of the tribute indicated...

The Queen B (or Queen "Bee" since she is once killed and ate a bee in front of her class to try to prove to her out-of-control students how tough she was) helped bring down the mayor of Washington DC. Guess Michelle's not a political guru either.

As for her teaching "career"...

...three years and out.

According to her Wikipedia entry she was a disaster in the classroom. In her first year, her almighty test scores crashed and burned. In her other two years, she team taught, so who is to know who gets credit for the radically improved scores...the "too good to be true" scores:

Blame the Principal for her bogus resume?

Whatever happened to "accountability", Michelle. Oh, that's right, that's for the pee-ons, not Superwoman!

Hmmm...

Since Rhee's term as Chancellor of DC schools is once again being questioned as an Atlanta-like cheating scandal, maybe Michelle "learned" from her brief teaching gig how to miraculously improve student test scores...

...by hook or crook!
