CAT Tracks for July 18, 2012
CSD #1 WEBSITE

Years in the making...

For at least a decade, various Cairo school superintendents touted the imminent appearance of a District website...to no avail.

Stop the presses...uh, CAT Tracks!!!

Received an e-mail yesterday afternoon:

Well...

With trembling paws and enhanced curiosity, I clicked the link in a "trust but verify" moment.

Lo and behold, it is true!

And, that's where the cattiness will end.

Glitzy, high tech...the CAT's meow!

I am truly impressed.

It is a work in progress (many of the links do not yet work), but the initial launch promises a source of information and communication long lacking. Hopefully, in the near future, I shall be able to reduce my District reporting to offering links to material created and authorized by District officials.

CAT Tracks Editor's Note:

Have to admit to a fleeting feeling of exhiliration...

"OMG...surely the District website will post the official minutes of school board meetings."

No more hours...straining to hear what was said (especially when the AC kicked into full-throated roar.) No more hours...sitting on the hard, cold steps of the District office (while the BOE would eat, drink, and be evil!) Oh happy CAT butt!!! No more hours...limping home afterward, typing my version of events before the stroke of midnight. Oh happy life!!!

...then the realization that although change is in the air (cyberspace?), some things remain the same. You see, official minutes must be approved by the Board of Education...a month later! Curious CATs cannot wait a month for satisfaction. Sigh.

Consolation prize:

Those cold, hard steps...

...are soon to disappear.

The District is in the process of moving its Central Office to the "Green Hall" area of Cairo Junior/Senior High School.

(BTW: Somebody told me that the "Green Hall" is history...that it has received a new color...blue?)

Anyway...

...there are no steps (cold, warm, hard, cushy, or otherwise) at CJSHS!

Of course...

...that may leave the bleak alternative of a hard, tiled floor.

Hmmm...

Due to advancing age and mobility/flexibility problems, maybe I need to work on accessing my website through my smartphone. NO! I am NOT going to try to "thumb" the minutes. But, I could have an emergency stand-by page ready to post with a few simple strokes, something along the lines of "I've fallen and I can't get up!" (Sliding down the wall and sitting on the floor is still doable. Rising hours later? A challenge, to say the least.)

Sigh...

...there I go again.

Seems that I remember saying:

"And, that's where the cattiness will end."

Guess that falls under the same category as: "I shall be brief..."

In closing...

(Yeah, you've heard that one before too!)

Welcome to cyberspace, Cairo School District Number One!

"Regrets, I've had a few. But then again, too few to mention."

    By Frank, Elvis et al.

Me?

Gotta say, I have one big regret about the appearance of CSD #1 in cyberspace...

No, it's not the "competition". As I indicated above, I would heartily welcome another entity taking on the burden of creating and posting information...to which I could simply post links.

No, it's the timing!

Oh, how I wish that the CSD #1 website had "gone live" four years ago!

He Who Shall Remain Nameless...

...he who prided himself as a wordsmith.

He who penned nonsensical "missives"...

...he who relished offending one and all.

(Remember the "tossed salad" that he served up on a SIP day?)

He...

...would have surely taken it upon himself to "set the record straight".

He...

...would have surely taken this old CAT to task for making mock of one so exalted as "he who".

Oh, the fun we could have had...

POSTSCRIPT:

With a song in my heart...

...one of my all time favorite 60's songs.

Parts of the song fit, parts definitely do not (e.g. that HWSRN would ever proclaim friendship.)

But...

The second half of the song, especially the last two stanzas purrfectly capture my memories of and feelings toward the Cairo Superintendent of Schools who was...

You got a lotta nerve
To say you are my friend
When I was down
You just stood there grinning

You got a lotta nerve
To say you got a helping hand to lend
You just want to be on
The side that’s winning

You say I let you down
You know it’s not like that
If you’re so hurt
Why then don’t you show it

You say you lost your faith
But that’s not where it’s at
You had no faith to lose
And you know it

I know the reason
That you talk behind my back
I used to be among the crowd
You’re in with

Do you take me for such a fool
To think I’d make contact
With the one who tries to hide
What he don’t know to begin with

You see me on the street
You always act surprised
You say, “How are you?” “Good luck”
But you don’t mean it

When you know as well as me
You’d rather see me paralyzed
Why don’t you just come out once
And scream it

No, I do not feel that good
When I see the heartbreaks you embrace
If I was a master thief
Perhaps I’d rob them

And now I know you’re dissatisfied
With your position and your place
Don’t you understand
It’s not my problem

I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
And just for that one moment
I could be you

Yes, I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
You’d know what a drag it is
To see you
