SCC RELOCATES CAIRO EXTENSION CENTER |
This is actually old news...
...saw the moving van a couple of weeks ago at the old CCEC location.
The article below was in August 6th edition of Monday's Pub (which actually got delivered by the USPS to Cairo residences on Saturday, August 4th)...
CAT Tracks Editor's Note:
Fringe Benefit...
The access road to the Cairo River Wall Mural is vastly improved!
Shortly after my original complaint about the access road, a modicum of asphalt was placed in the largest potholes and unevenly "steamrolled" by the 18-wheelers that frequent the business located there.
Now, with the arrival of SCC at the Delta Center and the installation of the new "SCC Parking Lot" signs, someone has spread additional asphalt and rolled it evenly into place.
A good thing!
A drive through the area will reveal the installation of a new storage shed behind the Delta Center for SCC use.
A reminder...
The Delta Center is located at 14th and Commercial, with the Cairo River Wall Mural located one block east at 14th and Ohio.
Have to admit...
I was initially concerned about the choice of location for the Cairo River Wall Mural...off the beaten path (or, more accurately, at the end of a very beaten path!)
I mean...
With the parking of huge trailers to obscure the view and the lack of regular traffic on Commercial, I felt a better location would have been at the levee opening at 8th and Ohio.
However...
With the relocation of the Cairo SCC Extension Center, the area in question may now be one of the most frequented places in town.
Maybe that was the plan all along!
As I am prone to spout adages...
"All's well that ends well!"
FOOTNOTE:
On an unrelated note...
Phase III of Cairo demolition has begun.
On my way to an impromptu luncheon meeting of retired CATs yesterday, I witnessed a crane busy at work at the old Roslyn Motel site.
I had noticed "signs" the day before at a couple of locations in town...orange spray-painted circles with little flag markers to indicate that AT&T had cleared the sites for digging and little blue circles to indicate that the Illinois-American Water Company had done the same.
Once again...
There will be very limited coverage of this phase.
Residents will likely see the demolition first-hand since the demolition sites are scattered throughout the city. Non-residents...if you are interested, you will have to schedule a late summer pilgrimage to the land of Cairo, (Little Egypt)!
