ANY EXPERIENCED RANTER

From the Miami Herald...

Too depressed to rant about driverless cars

CAT Tracks Editor's Note:

Leonard's opening about "any experienced ranter" spoke to me...

...and the timing was purrfect.

As this past week progressed and the CHS 1996 Egypti loomed ever closer, I pondered what catty commentary would naturally ensue.

I had gone on and on and on last week in my updated CHS 1995 Egypti posting about the aftermath of the 24-day teachers strike...

...and the subsequent attempt by "the District gods" to remake Cairo High School in their own image.

So...

It crossed my mind to add a link to the 1996 posting. Eschewing the much-too-obvious (albeit true) "The Gods Must Be Crazy", I found myself leaning toward a more subtle, transitional "In Their Own Graven, Craven Image."

That thought resulted from the fact that there were four (4) pages dedicated to the administration in the 1996 edition and only two to the faculty staff...to be repeated in 1997! (In 1995, the count was three and three (four for the faculty if you count the "Hellos and Goodbyes" page.) And the size of the damn pictures...lording it over the miniatures of the faculty and staff! Talk about sending a message!!!

Then...

...just as my paws reached for my battered computer keyboard, the "SECRETARIES" page spoke to me...

Now...

Let's see, where was I?

Oh, yeah...

...just as my paws reached for my battered computer keyboard, the "SECRETARIES" page spoke to me. Exactly the same format in 1995 and 1996...two individual pictures, of identical size.

Well, hell...

...guess I could just ignore that and focus on the other aspects...

...of the "muddy quagmire".

Sigh...

And that, Dear Reader, is how you got the "clean" posting of the CHS 1996 Yearbook earlier today.

But, then, Leonard Pitts Jr. rode to the rescue...

...allowing me to "get it out of my system".

POSTSCRIPT

Dear Leonard:

Please...

Tell me it isn't so!!!

Have you really heard something about the development of a machine that can write a whiny column?

FOOTNOTE

I was bemused to see...

...that my personal protest of opting out of the faculty shoot on the annual CHS Picture Day was echoed/trumped by my not being listed under "Not Pictured".

Gotta luv it...
