Sam and I kept in touch after he left Cairo.

As a loyal reader of CAT Tracks, Sam would often offer his own "catty commentary" regarding my missives. I would affectionately respond to "The Big Dog".

When I had my medical problems last year, Sam was quick to express his concern that I seek and find the best in care.

The beginning and close of that e-Mail:

My Friend Ron:

I am saddened....and alarmed to learn of your recent medical problems.

My first concern is if you are getting quality medical treatment. I want you to have the very best heart and neurologist there is available.....even if you have to go to St. Louis or wherever.

You are too young to check out right now...and besides that I'd miss you.
