STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES |
A "well, duh" quote from the article...
The Bureau of Labor Statistics data also “consistently shows that the employment rate of individuals with disabilities is half that of individuals without disabilities. New report shows states sometimes offer lower-standard diplomas to students with disabilities
CAT Tracks Editor's Note:
As with the previous post, isn't the difference kind of in the "definition" of having "disabilities"?
As for the following:
Well, wah, wah, wah!
If the "powers that be" are confused or unsure, well, isn't that why the gods created college entrance exams and job interviews?
What's the real-life alternative...
...abolish special education services and let those with mental and/or physical disabilities sink or swim?
Kind of like "throwing the baby out with the bathwater."
Then again, that's what most charter and private schools do!
Well, no, they don't throw the "baby" (student) out, they just don't allow them to enter their hallowed halls...
...as it would bring down their precious test scores!
As compared to their peers without disabilities, student with disabilities have lower rates of enrollment in post-secondary education and lower rates of post-secondary completion, says the report.
"...the business community find the alternative diplomas confusing and of questionable value. Employers are most unsure of certificates of completion, attendance, or achievement and are least likely to hire persons with these certificates. Similarly, post-secondary institutions place little value on alternative exit certificates and, in general, treat students who earn these alternative certificates as though they had dropped out of school."
