JAY MATHEWS CALLS FOR TESTING HOLIDAY |
Even more jaw-dropping:
As I have said, "grading individual teachers with scores is too approximate, too erratic and too destructive of the team spirit that makes great schools."
From The Washington Post
Do parents want to see test results in 2014?
As an eternal optimist ;-) I am going to proclaim Jay's post as the education reform movement's "Cronkite Moment"...
...named after former CBS anchor Walter Cronkite:
(Several weeks later, Johnson announced he would not seek reelection.)
From Jay's lips to the ears of the "powers that be"...
I once thought using test scores to rate schools and teachers was a good idea. I still think they are useful tools in assessing schools, but I no longer believe they work at the classroom level.
Following Cronkite's editorial report (about the Vietnam War), President Lyndon Johnson is claimed by some to have said, "If I've lost Cronkite, I've lost Middle America."
