THE GREAT AWAKENING?

Could it be that NEA President Dennis Van Roekel is beginning to see the light? To see the error of his Common-Core-supporting ways?

NEA President: We Need a Course Correction on Common Core

CAT Tracks Editor's Note:

Too little, too late, Dennis...

...clearly an attempt at face-saving as your final year as NEA President winds down.

As Dennis (finally) follows the lead of AFT President Randi Weingarten, he still can't admit the fundamental flaws of the CCSS...

...choosing instead to try and sound all forceful in calling for a delay rather than to admit that the whole project was ill-conceived, just like NCLB before it.

So...

As the opposition gathers strength under the leadership of Diane Ravitch et al, Dennis wants to slow the pace of advance rather than call for a full-fledged retreat.

Dennis:

In addition to all those math classes, you should have spent some time studying history. Then you might have learned about this General Custer fellow who foolishly ignored warnings of an impending disaster and led his troops to slaughter.

Luckily for Dennis...

In this updated version, General Van Roekel will be spared, will get to ride off into the sunset of retirement, leaving it to teachers to confront all those standards.

Good luck...

...to the good little soldiers!
