THE COMMON BORE |
Blah, blah, blah...
From eSchool News
Seven instructional strategies for the Common Core
CAT Tracks Editor's Note:
The first two paragraphs of the article said enough:
Implementation challenges range from a lack of professional development and curriculum materials aligned with the Common Core, to inadequate technology infrastructure and changing assessment practices.
In other words, it's on you, teachers...
...as usual!
As for the "Seven Instructional Strategies for the Common Core"...
The damn district workshop held in the cafeteria of Cairo High School:
The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People...
What a waste of time and District money...
...the only good news being, that as soon as the presenters left, we, the saber-toothed CATs, were allowed to put the little binders in a cabinet and go about our business...actual teaching!
You guys ain't that lucky...
...like NCLB before it, the CCSS is here for at least the next decade.
Okay, as usual, I digressed.
Back to the "Seven Instructional Strategies for the Common Core"...
Well, hell, the first one was enough for me:
"Unpack" the damn standard?!
Reminds me of a moldie oldie:
Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kit-Bag, and Smile, Smile, Smile.
It's time for teachers from sea to shining sea to stop smiling and join the war against the Common Crock!
As significant numbers of educators, parents, and politicians push back on the Common Core Standards now that implementation has begun, many teachers are left to navigate the shift with little or no direction about how to change their teaching practice to accommodate the new standards.
Another PTSD flashback!
