DAMN THE DATA |
Sure there may be a glut of STEM degrees...
...but, hey, the sky still might be falling!
From eSchool News
Is the U.S. losing the tech race?
CAT Tracks Editor's Note:
Loved this paragraph:
Bears repeating...
U.S. schools currently produce large numbers of high-performing science and math students (about one-third of the world’s total in science)
Producing one-third of the total...
...means that the U.S. is likely #1 in the effing STEM education world.
But, all the headlines say that the United States public education system sucks and that its practitioners are lazy, tenured incompetents.
Therein lies "The Lie".
Buried in the article, buried in the paragraph is passing reference to "The Truth" that Barack Obama and his mouthpiece constantly deny:
"This is a reflection of...economic inequalities..."
Yet, Duncan constantly pooh-poohs "poverty"...
...Poverty is just an excuse by defenders of the status quo.
Well, dammit, according to the exalted data, the status quo ain't doing too damn bad!
And what are they (Obama, Duncan, et al) doing about it ("The Lie")?
Taking every opportunity to bash public education and re-segregate schools by shipping students off to private and charter schools...
...so the children of the elite won't have to rub elbows with the poor, of all races, creeds, and colors.
And, to top it off, make the 1% richer as they raid the coffers of public education.
Common Core may be alive and well...
...but common decency is dying.
U.S. schools currently produce large numbers of high-performing science and math students (about one-third of the world’s total in science) but also very large numbers of students with low test scores that partly explain the less-than-stellar U.S. rankings in international comparisons. This is a reflection of educational and economic inequalities that need to be addressed energetically, but it is not a reason to urge every American student to pursue a STEM degree.
