STUDENT SUCCESS ACT

As I have said before...

...over and over and over.

The Obama Administration has been worse for public education and its practitioners than Republicans ever hoped to be. Obama and his basketball-playing buddy took George W. Bush's education program and added money, the carrot to break public education's back.

RTTT? NCLB on steroids!

For that reason, Republicans should be applauding each new assault on teachers and their unions (and, inwardly, I'm sure they do.) But, hey, it's politics, you can't agree with your opponent without insuring her/his re-election. I mean...why should somebody vote "the rascal" out if you think s/he is doing a good job and would continue those policies?

I never could get my mind around the Republicans signing on for increasing federal control at the expense of local and state control. But, their hatred of public education and public school teacher and unions in general blinded them. Plus, all their rich constituents were getting, well, richer. When the tech bubble burst and the housing market went belly up, Republicans looked around and saw...all those billions and billions of dollars to be had in public education.

The only reason they are not lining up behind Obama is, well, because he's a Democrat...and, for many (not that they would ever admit it), because he's black.

(Hey, if I seem feisty , I've got an excuse. I'm on steroids for my latest plague...poison ivy. So, if I stepped all over your toes, just keep those cards and e-mails coming!)

So...

The Republicans are floating a rewrite NCLB (aka ESEA). Finally, they want to return to their roots...roll back federal programs (including RTTT) and return control to local and state government. President Obama says bring it on...I'll veto it!

Obama threatens veto of House GOP ‘No Child Left Behind’ update

Well, hell, I could get all excited about that!

Except that the Republicans "want their cake and eat it too"...

...want to keep feeding their rich friends a diet of private schools (resegregation...poor and rich) and all that money!

And, then...

...if one were to contemplate switching sides (no, you're right, I'm not), along comes a voice of unreason:

I sure hope that the Democratic Party picks a real Democrat to run for president next time!

And Illinois Democrats, please...
