C-W BRIDGE...FIRST-HAND REPORT |
About that cat curiosity thing...
One of my hearing aids "died" Sunday and my Miracle Ear outlet of choice is in Paducah, lucky me with Monday being the first day of the "expected delays" on the Cairo-Wickliffe bridge. No way was I going to venture in that direction on the first day of the newly imposed restrictions. Steeled myself to going to long way around.
When I called the store on Monday, they told me they could take me on Tuesday afternoon.
Since my appointment was not until 2:45, I decided to brighten one of my retirement days with an adventure. Yep, off to Paducah over the C-W bridge.
Well, assuming that your vehicle is not more than 7 feet wide or more than 19 feet long...
No problem!
There is a traffic light installed with roughly a 2-minute duration. Have had longer waits at the regular stop lights in Paducah (or Cape.)
The advertised "police presence" was indeed in place on both sides of the bridge. On the KY side, the powers that be had the presence of mind to position the "check point" at the location of the old Wickliffe weigh station. So...if someone missed the restrictions message (or decided to test the system), they will be stopped in an area where "turn around" should be a relatively non-disruptive process. (I had envisioned some semi or RV stuck at the bottom of the KY approach with no where to go.)
Bears repeating:
No problem!
DISCLAIMER:
I did not venture forth at "rush hour"...
...traveling to Paducah at approximately 1 p.m. and returning at approximately 4 p.m.
Bonne route!
