EDUCATION TECHNOLOGY |
If you don't, why...
...if you do, what!
From eSchool News...
Why aren’t teachers using more technology in the classroom?
Our readers’ top 40 ed-tech services for 2013-14
A dinosaur could really wade into this conversation...
...he who resisted calculators in math class like they were the plague.
DISCLAIMER: My reason for resisting calculators was mostly financial. Back in my days of decision making, calculators were expensive. Only the more well-to-do students had them to bring/use if I had chosen that path. The school district was not going to buy me a class set. So, for me, it was a no-brainer.
Back to the article, the "don't use" article...
The comparison of use rates by colleges with K-12 rates, apples and oranges.
Students who go to college are the "cream of the crop"...more well-to-do, more likely to own iPhones and/or iPads. Also, since college students are older and since they or parents/guardians (likely to pull the plug for frittering away their education for recreational use of their handheld device during class time) are paying for them to attend college, they are much more likely to use said devices for educational purposes.
In a typical K-12 classroom...forgetaboutit.
Typical...
Under "Exploring Reasons Why" - SURPRISE! - the very first bullet (pun intended) puts teachers squarely in the crosshairs. Oh, yes, succeeding bullets cite some very good reasons why teachers might not be using technology, reasons beyond their control.
But, in the end, you can bet that the blame will fall on teachers.
I'm just surprised that the article didn't fire a silver bullet (the vampire killing kind) at teacher unions. Gotta be a conspiracy out there since it's teachers all over the country that are resisting technology. Individual teachers aren't smart enough to come up with rebellious actions on their own.
I mean, remember, "those who can do"...
..."those who can't"...
...are presently mourning "the end of days", the dwindling of their paid three-month summer vacation.
Soon, it will be back to school...
...glorified babysitters, leeching off of the public.

I could be an education reform blogger if I disengaged my mind and put my heart(less) to it!
Arne Duncan, my hero!
Oh, and don't forget (the other) Tony Bennett. The education Tony may not get paid for it, but he's doing a pretty good song and dance right now (trying to explain what he did or didn't do during his Indiana gig!)
Hey Tony...
How 'bout a cover of "Cry Me A River".
