REGULAR BOE MEETING...AGENDA PLUS |
The Cairo Board of Education held its regular meeting on August 15th at 6 p.m.
Below is the agenda...
...but first, some very brief comments:
- An "AMENDED AGENDA" was available. However, the only change was the addition of Item "9. (2) d." to accept the resignatio of "Leah Hooper - Guidance Counselor - CJSHS"...which passed. All other Item #9 matters were approved.
- Attending this meeting were Coleman, Moore, Nelson, Gooden, and McBride.
- Examples of Excellence will resume in Septemmber.
- There were no visitors requesting to speak to the BOE (except that Keeshia Woods spoke with the BOE in Closed Session.)
- The listed minutes and agendas were approved.
- Approval of the Treasurer's Report was tabled as it was not available.
Report of the Superintendent:
- The proposed budget for the 2013-2014 school year is on reading for the next 30 days.
- There will be a Special BOE Meeting on August 22nd at 6 p.m. to approve personnel matters.
Informational:
- There was a brief but spirited discussion of school uniforms...considered for the 2014-2015 school year (since the District's attorney advised that they had waited too late to act for the coming school year.) More study is to be done and then decision will be made. (One thing that I found interesting was that they are considering required uniform shirts only - with guidelines for acceptable bottoms. That wasn't the interesting part, though. The interesting part was that the District would only buy one top for the students, leaving it up to the parents to buy any additional items. In a District that is 95% free lunch, I guess that means that students will be washing their shirts every night or smelling up the classroom the next day, or days. Something to ponder!)
- A neighbor has expressed interest in acquiring the old Garrison building on 34th street (the old District Central Office.) Before that can happen, a procedure must be followed...declaring the building surplus property, advertising sale, accepting bids, and awarding same.) Superintendent Adrea Evers indicated that there were three options: (1) Sell the building following the aforementioned guidelines, (2) Place the building on the demolition list, or (3) Do nothing.
Closed Session was from 6:115 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The BOE voted to approve the "Item 9" matters.
The BOE voted to adjourn at 7:34 p.m.
Treasurer's Report Not Available.
