CATTY REACTIONS

Since my retirement (no brag, just fact), I have tried to keep a paw on the pulse of the Cairo Association of Teachers.

Accordingly, I decided that a "Back to School" documentary might be in order...

..."Happy CATs", batteries recharged thanks to a summer respite, bored and ready to get back at it.

However, when I approached a CAT last week for a reaction to the approaching school year, I got the first inklings that my expectations might be a bit high:

Okay, not what I was expecting.

But, still...

Our CAT had teaching supplies at paw. Maybe the less-than-enthusiastic reaction was a matter of simply conserving energy, energy that might be needed during the long year to come. (Or could it be that my query reminded this dedicated CAT that time was running out on aligning the curriculum to the CCSS?!)

Yesterday morning, I picked a CAT house at random. (Hmmm...I don't think that came out right.)

Anyway...

Thanks to the wonders of my smartphone camera, I was at the door of a randomly selected CAT to capture the moment when it was time for school departure:

Damn!

No way to spin that reaction into a positive presentation.

What's a CAT Tracks editor to do?

Hey, I know...

"Edit" the caption from the first photo to something like:

The Few, The Proud

The CATs!

As for the second photo...

...oops, must have hit the delete button instead of save. (Don't you just hate it when that happens?)

Discouraged, but not yet ready to abandon my high hopes for a follow-up to my epic about "He Who Shall Remain Nameless", I gave it another try.

You know me an my adages:

"The third time is the charm."

So, I knocked on the door of another CAT hou..., uh, residence of a member of the local teachers' union.

I offered an energetic: "Good morning! Are we a happy CAT today?"

Well, since I wanted candid shots and spontaneous reactions, I clicked a picture before realizing just what I was seeing:

As for the documentary...

Cut!
