No, it is not your imagination...

Cairo tap water smells funny and tastes bad!

However...

I have it on good authority - a former CAT who called American Water Resources - that it is safe to drink.

Well, it may be safe to ingest, but I would advise against it. I don't drink stuff that smells funny and tastes bad.

Beer is better...

....tastes great, less filling!

:-)

When it stops smelling, I shall venture a (small) taste test.

Until then, it's definitely bottled water time!

BTW:

The reason given by the local water company for the foulness...

Cairo's source of water used to be "surface water".

For whatever reason, the company has switched to "ground water".

Memo to American Water Resources:

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
