The head clown to the left of me - aka Arne the Duncan - has spoken...
Allowing/Requiring students with disabilities to take the same standardized tests as other students is going to allow students with disabilities to reach their full potential?
If parents of students without disabilities were complaining about and opting out of standardized testing because their children were breaking down and crying, what do we think is going to happen when students with disabilities are forced to take those same tests...especially with the more rigorous Common Core assessments?!
I could go on, but...
Rather than render a lengthy personal rant and rave, I shall simply second the following response from the article:

Arne Duncan Wants Special Education Students To Take General Exams
"We have to expect the very best from our students and tell the truth about student performance, to prepare them for college and career," Duncan said in a statement. "That means no longer allowing the achievement of students with disabilities to be measured by these alternate assessments aligned to modified achievement standards. This prevents these students from reaching their full potential, and prevents our country from benefiting from that potential."
"WTF?" tweeted columnist Sarah Littman in response to the news. "HAS @ARNEDUNCAN EVER TALKED TO SPED [special education] KIDS? IS HE [EFFING] SERIOUS?!!!"
