THROWBACK THURSDAY |
Serendipity...
Merriam-Webster defines it as:
In my luvin' retirement (albeit sometimes bored) state, I decided on some "Spring Cleaning" yesterday. (Disclaimer: If "everyday is Saturday" in retirement, why would "Spring Cleaning" seem out of place in late January!)
Anyway...
My previous week's book purging proved addictive as I turned to VHS tapes yesterday morn.
Lo and behold, what is this, sandwiched between two tapes?
Three photographs from a very special time in Cairo High School sports...
...the "IHSA 1984-1985 3rd Place Trophy Presentation Ceremony" to the Cairo Co-Pilots:
: the faculty or phenomenon of finding valuable or agreeable things not sought for; also: an instance of this
As I was reflecting upon good times from my second decade as an educator, I realized that the day was actually Wednesday in the real world (formerly "hump day"...not anymore!)
And, with only a moment's hesitation, I realized that Thursday followed...
..."Throwback Thursday".
Yes, a digression...
My brother-in-law is into Facebook. One of the things that participants in social media sites do with regularity (in addition to posting pictures of their latest meal) is to post pictures from "a while ago".
As serendipity would have it, his post today is from his days at good ol' CHS...
...namely, a picture of the 1971-1972 Student Council:
1971-1972
My third year of teaching...
Talk about serendipity!
If you look again at the picture above...
...at the young man standing on the far right, second row.
Look familiar?
Well, he should, he's still at Cairo High, although this is his last year!
Yes, at the January Regular Meeting of the Cairo Board of Education, they accepted his resignation...
...punched his ticket to the wonderful world of retirement!
Welcome to my world, Ronnie Woods!
POSTSCRIPT I:
Did you recognize any other members of the 1971-1972 CHS Student Council?
Well, for sure, Cairoites should recognize the young man in the back row, third from the left.
If you want to challenge your memory, it's not to late...
...go back and look one more time.
Then (and only then, no peeking!)...
...click on the answer key!
(Since Peter "inspired" this trip down memory lane - and especially since he "featured" me in one of his "TBT" posts - I think it only fitting to identify him as the young man standing in the front row, far left.)
