Arne Duncan: Schools Must Give Poor and Minority Students Equal Access to Resources

CAT Tracks Editor's Note:

In theory, a no-brainer...

...every child should have an equal education regardless of race, creed, color, or ZIP Code.

In reality, forgetaboutit!

I mean...

...in Illinois, there is a bill struggling for support that would impose "means testing" on general state aid. If passed into law, general state aid would be taken away from wealthy districts and funneled to poor districts. Needless to say, the wealthy districts are up in arms. The Illinois Speaker of the House, Michael Madigan, wouldn't even attend meetings to consider the proposal. Chicago politicians are not going to pass legislation that would require them to raise taxes on their constituents so that the rubes in Southern Illinois can have modern facilities and advanced classes.

Still "waiting for superman"?

Well, "waiting for Robin Hood" will be longer...

...like until the proverbial Hell freezes over!
