REGULAR BOE MEETING...AGENDA PLUS |
The Cairo Board of Education held its Regular Meeting on Thursday, December 18th at 6 p.m.
The AMENDED agenda follows...
...along with some VERY BRIEF comments:

The short and sweet of it:
All members were present.
Cairo Elementary Kindergarten Teacher Rena Adams had the "Examples of Excellence" honors. She gave a brief PowerPoint Presentation on the strategies for teaching reading - the Whole Language approach and the Phonics approach, indicating that she used a combination of the two. Accompanied by some of her students, she then went through an actual teaching session.
District Bookkeeper/Accountant Janiece Blake made a brief presentation about the proposed tax levy. The bottom line: Although the District increased the tax levy by 25%, the actual tax billing for owners of real estate will decrease by approximately $1 per $100 of estimated assessed evaluation. (Hey, I just report 'em, I don't 'splain 'em!) A handout that accompanied the presentation is below.
District enrollment has increased slightly to 508.
Closed Session began at 6:20 p.m. and ended at 7:45 p.m.
The BOE then voted to approve the items listed under Agenda Item #9. (The new CJSHS Special Education teacher is Erin Eggemeyer.)
Adjournment was at 7:51 p.m.
