CAT Tracks for February 12, 2015
THROWBACK THURSDAY III |
Jennette Posey's ordeal began 40 years ago...
...and in typical Cairo School District Number One style, took four years and federal intervention to end it.
A yellowed 1979 IEA Advocate relates her story (along with other victims of racial discrimination in Southern Illinois)...
CAT Tracks Editor's Note:
In what will likely be my final fit of excavating and purging (hey, about all that's left is furniture!)...
...uncovered definite proof of what I have always known:
A Pack CAT!
However, I thought this final edition fitting...
...the 'Land of Lincoln', on his birthday no less!
And the current Republican governor of Illinois says that workers don't need unions?
Bosses always say that...
...because it's to their advantage!
BTW:
If any of you newish teachers out there, or even some of you forgetful veteran teachers, don't think you need protection...
...and are tempted to give away your rights, your protections, and trust the SOBs (Sweet Old Bosses) to take care of you?
Standing by and letting working conditions slip back to "the good old days"...
...just insures that you or your successors are going to have to re-fight all the old battles.
As they say...
...those who don't know history, are doomed to repeat it!
POSTSCRIPT:
If you "lived it" and enjoyed these trips down memory lane, great.
On the other hand...
If these three chapters in (that book that I was always suppose to write about) the history of CSD #1 were news to you...
