TFA: RECRUITING NUMBERS FALL

From the New York Times

Fewer Top Graduates Want to Join Teach for America

CAT Tracks Editor's Note:

This wasn't "new" news...

...had posted a similar article a while back.

Two things made this article newsworthy to me:

  1. That it was a major story in the New York Times...

    ...not just some "education rag".

The "education reformers" have been ruling the media airways with their latest "silver bullet" to cure an allegedly failing system of public education.

It's nice to see some negative publicity for a change.

  2. Speaking of change...

...I was struck by a quote in the article:

Caleb Dolan...said that Teach for America was willing to debate with students who were unsure whether to join. "Ultimately, that willingness to engage will win over the hearts and minds of kids who should be teaching," he said.

Ahhh, the old winning hearts and minds strategy of the Vietnam War.

We all remember how well that turned out!
