Rising Water in Cairo Prompts Action
CAT Tracks Editor's Note:
Well, let the bad-mouthing of Cairo begin...
...like "Let the river rats drown!" (oft accompanied by hate-fueled racial epithets. Sigh.)
And, of course, the infamous classic from 2011:
“Cairo,” Tilley replied without hesitation as reporters laughed. “I’ve been there. Trust me. Cairo.”
“Have you been to Cairo?” Tilley asked a reporter, who said he had. “OK, then you know what I’m saying then.”
Since I haven't had occasion to do any musical references lately, here's an appropriate classic from Johnny Cash:
POSTSCRIPT:
As of Friday afternoon, the Ohio River at Cairo was at "37R". The record is 61.72 feet on 05/02/2011...
...right before the Army Corps of Engineers blew the Birds Point levee
...the controversy which prompted Missouri House Speaker Tilley's insensitive, albeit, heart-felt remarks.
As for our other river...
...a bird's eye view from the I-57 Mississippi River bridge showed a whole lotta water.
As of the Saturday morning wee hours, the rain has finally stopped...
...with a promising forecast for the coming week (except for Tuesday.)
Missouri’s House Speaker Steve Tilley was asked this week whether he’d rather see Missouri farmland flooded or see Cairo under water. As you already know by now, the Army Corps of Engineers is planning to blow up a “fuseplug” levee in Missouri to relieve flooding pressure on Cairo.
