NEW LAWS...NEW LIABILITIES |
From KFVS TV Channel 12
Trained IL school personnel can now give EpiPen injections
CAT Tracks Editor's Note:
Look, I dunno what the IEA's position is now...
...since the laws have changed...
...but, it used to be the IEA legal department advised teachers NOT to assume any medical duties such as administering medicines, asthma breathing treatments, etc.
The IEA legal department basically said that if you take on these responsibilities, you do so at your own peril.
The new law in which high school students must be trained in the use of defibrillators was scary to me.
I would venture a guess that there's gonna be a big jump in lawsuits in Illinois. Any "Good Samaritan" considering zapping or injecting someone might want to keep in mind the old saying that: "No good deed goes unpunished."
A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing.
My final caution...
Teachers: If you are of the opinion that performing medical procedures is a good thing, check with the IEA to make sure that your liability insurance and your legal representation will be there for YOU!
Attempting to save a life could end up ruining yours...
