CAT Tracks for October 6, 2015
NO SCHOOL FRIDAY

From WPSD TV Channel 6

Public schools in five southern Illinois counties to be closed Friday

CAT Tracks Editor's Note:

Time for catty!

For 3 months I have kept watch on the ROE 30 website so that I could replace the CAT Tracks website link from the former ROE 02 (that encompassed Alexander, Johnson, Massac, Pulaski and Union counties) to the new, consisting of Alexander, Jackson, Perry, Pulaski, and Union counties.

Alas...

...to this very day, the ROE 30 website still proudly advertises itself as serving "the schools and communities in the Jackson/Perry region."

Oh, yes, on its calendar of events, it does (grudgingly?) announce that: "The Regional Office of Education #30 is excited to welcome 11 new districts to this year's Annual Teachers' Institute at Carbondale High School on Oct 9, 2015."

Like they're visitors?

Hey, the transitioning of ROEs began in 2013. It became official on July 1, 2015...

...three effing months ago.

From personal experience, I can attest that it's not hard to change the wording on a website, at least on the homepage that greets visitors. If links from there need to be tweaked, then that could remain a work in progress. (And, hey, unlike a certain self-taught puddy tat, professional web masters probably wouldn't have to labor from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. to accomplish the feat. MEOW!)

Region 30 Superintendent Donna S. Boros:

It's time to bury the past.

You didn't create the new ROEs, you might well have not been happy of having extra districts, extra work, thrust upon you. (Then, again, count your blessings, former Region 02 Superintendent Janet Ulrich probably wasn't too happy about losing her job!)

But, those "new" districts did not thrust themselves upon you either. If there is a villain, it's former Governor Pat Quinn and the General Assembly which passed the law to save money.

It's time to embrace change and move on.

Revamping your website so that it (finally) covers ALL of your region would be an easy way, a nice way, of showing those 11 new districts how "excited" you really are.
