Report of the Superintendent/Informational:
- Once again, Superintendent Andrea Evers read off a list of dates of upcoming events.
- She also stated that eight applications have been received for the position of principal of Cairo Elementary following the retirement of Rose Gayle Pickett at the end of this school year. She further mentioned that she planned on waiting three or four more weeks for further applications and then begin the winnowing process. She asked the BOE members who would be interested in serving on a committee for doing so, a committee that would be limited to three members at one time, since more than than number would require the calling of an actual BOE meeting.
- The CHS prom will be held on April 30th.
- The District has received its local real estate tax revenue. She gave the actual dollar amount, but I missed it. She did mention that the compliance rate of paying taxes was 96% this year, higher than usual.
- Superintendent Evers also commented on the two Black History programs held at the end of February, that they were both excellent.
- Over Spring Break, there will be some major renovation of the Central Office area and CJSHS Principal Nate Porter's office. Reportedly the focus is on removing barriers and even some walls to make the areas more "open and inviting".
- Expect more of an Illinois State Police presence on school campus, involving community policing and teacher active shooter training. There will also be an unannounced drug search involving a canine.
The BOE voted to enter closed session at 6:30 p.m. The BOE voted to exit closed session at 7:37.
Action/Decisions by the BOE:
- No resignations or hirings.
- Adopted the 2016 Amended School Calendar
- Tabled the 2017 Proposed School Calendar.
- Approved JAMP Bylaws.
- Tabled Compensation for Director of Finance and Payroll.
The BOE voted to adjourn at 7:40 p.m.
