EMERGENCY BOE MEETING...HEARSAY

The Cairo Board of Education held an Emergency Meeting on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 6 p.m.

Below is the notice, followed by some comments...

CAT Tracks Editor's Note:

Since I did not attend the meeting, the following comments are purely "hearsay"...

...based on second- and third-hand conversations.

As background...

...the reason for the Emergency Meeting was an "ugly" incident earlier this week at CJSHS...

...a food fight at noon in the cafeteria that prompted several related or unrelated fights that required the assistance of several teachers and staff to bring under control. Evidently, some of the participants ended up being taken to the police station. I have no idea if charges were actually filed.

Thus the Emergency Meeting to consider "Student Discipline Concerns".

About last night...

All BOE members were present for the meeting...

...which lasted from 6 p.m. until after 9 p.m.

The outcome of the meeting (repeating that this is "hearsay")...

...more security has been added to CJSHS beginning today. School officials will reportedly meet with the Alexander County State's Attorney to discuss options in the event of future incidents, namely, the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.

Bottom Line:

The CSD #1 administration is concerned for the welfare and safety of all of its students and employees and will take whatever measures deemed necessary and proper to see that it is accomplished.

The actual procedures are a work in progress...
