A NEW GALLUP POLL |
Shows that there is nothing new under the sun...
...at least in the world of education and student aspirations:
From Education Week
Gallup Student Poll Finds Engagement in School Dropping by Grade Level
CAT Tracks Editor's Note:
Well duh!
I mean, whatever!!!
Interest in school has dropped by grade level since the time dinosaurs roamed the earth. (Note: I do know that 'man' and dinosaurs did not walk the planet at the same time. :-)
By the way, there ain't a thing that educators, researchers, or pundits can do to change that...
...especially since students have an increasing supply of distractions - legal and otherwise - to take their eyes off the education prize.
And...
...if they do become more "engaged" with education, get into college, graduate from college, then what? Good luck finding a job!
Okay, blame it on the rain, but I just wasn't in the mood for BS this morning.
That said, I must confess...
...a sunny day is not likely to change my disposition on this topic.
And in conclusion, you know the line that really rubbed me raw:
Talk about trying to lay a guilt trip on (scapegoat) parents/guardians and educators!
Older students (as in teenagers?) "feel less cared for by adults"?
Hell no, let's put that another way, a way that is closer to reality...
...teenagers could care less what adults say because, well, they are teenagers and they know everything.
Whew, okay, this is why I am comfortable in retirement and don't miss the battle for truth, justice and the American way.
No matter how long Michelle Rhee and the other reformers want to wait, Superman ain't comin'...
...and even he would rather deal with Kryptonite than teenagers!
Oh, and have a nice day!
"The report suggests that engagement drops as students age because older students feel less cared for by adults..."
