SPECIAL BOE MEETING...'MINUTES'

CAT Tracks Editor's Note:

Previous post:

Well hush my catty mouth!

Madam CAT President gave up a slice of her life last night, sitting in the hallway for hours...

...providing these 'minutes':

The meeting was called to order at 6 p.m. All members were present except Arnold Burris.

The BOE voted to amend the agenda, adding the selection of Executive Secretary under "5. Requiring Action/Decisions By Board of Education".

The BOE voted to enter closed session at 6:10 p.m. (During closed session three members of CAT addressed the BOE about the principal position at Cairo Elementary.) The BOE voted to exit closed session at 10:06 p.m.

Requiring Action/Decisions By Board of Education:

  • Accepted the resignation of Tiffany Burris as Principal of Cairo Elementary.

  • Hired Keeshia Carr as Executive Secretary.

Informational:

  • There will be a Special Meeting on June 21st to develop plans for next year on school safety and discipline.

  • There will be a Community Meeting on June 27th at 6:00 at CJSHS to discuss the State of the State and get input from community members and staff.

  • The Regular BOE Meeting for this month will be on June 23rd (rather than June 16th).

Bobby Mayberry (who had arrived after the BOE had gone into closed session) used this time to ask questions about the District opening this year and whether it would stay open. He said that he had been to the Cairo City Council Meeting and it was rumored that the District was in bad financial shape. Mr. Mayberry was told that the district would open on time.

The BOE then voted to adjourn.

Thank you De De O'Shea for service above and beyond the call of duty!
