BOST: BE ANGRY WITH ACHA, NOT HUD

From the April 20th Edition of The Cairo Citizen

CAT Tracks Editor's Note:

A genuine "Thank You!" to Congressman Bost for his interest and impetus in the Cairo public housing debacle.

But, about that "anger" thing...

...there is plenty left to direct at HUD.

HUD does not have clean hands in this sordid mess. For decades, HUD officials have "signed off" on inspections supposedly made, audits supposedly conducted, and millions of dollars sent to Cairo to be used to care for the residents of the public housing projects. And, not one of them said "STOP!" until Molly Parker and The Southern Illinoisan exposed the shenanigans.

In fact, it has crossed my mind more than once during the past year...

...that the reason that no locals have been forced to do a perp walk is that they have threatened to sing, to "rat out" HUD officials for their complicity.

If so, HUD doesn't want the bad publicity of their own officials doing the walk of shame.

It also makes HUD responsible for this mess, as enablers, subject to doing the right thing - i.e. spending the money to fix what they hath wrought...

...instead of disrupting families, scattering the victims, and demolishing the scene of the crimes.

So, Congressman Bost, thanks for climbing on the bandwagon after The Southern put it in gear...

...that was the politically correct thing to do...

...but NOW it's time to fix Cairo Public Housing, not make it go away!

I mean...

...HUD could have had some new facilities built in the year plus they have had since they took over.
