REGULAR BOE MEETING...AGENDA PLUS |
The Cairo Board of Education held its rescheduled Regular Meeting on Thursday, June 22, 2017, at 6 p.m.
Prior to that meeting (at 5:45 p.m.), the BOE conducted a Public Hearing on the Amended Budget for 2016-2017.
The agendas for both are immediately below...
...followed by brief comments:
A couple of "supporting documents" were provided to attendees:
As for the "testimony"...
...my hearing did not allow me to follow.
The bottom line was that the State of Illinois is waaaaaaay behind in meeting its obligations to school districts...
...in Cairo to the tune of over $300,000.
Also...
...the District's actual (amended) budget turned out to be better than the originally predicted (adopted) budget.
Unfortunately, the declining student enrollment (both before and, now, after the public housing crisis) will continue to adversely affect General State Aid.

As for the regular meeting...
...an amended agenda was available to attendees which included the addition of the hiring of a band teacher.
All personnel under Item 7. (2) Hiring(s) were approved. (I did not try to keep track of the athletic hirings. There were 15 positions filled.)
Superintendent Andrea Evers announced that there would be a Special Meeting on Monday, June 26th, at 5:30 p.m. (I will post the notice and agenda later.)
The BOE was in Closed Session from 6:11 p.m. until 7:43 p.m. and adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
