REGULAR BOE MEETING...AGENDA PLUS

The Cairo Board of Education held its Regular Meeting on Thursday, July 21st at 6 p.m.

The amended agenda is below...

...followed by the 'minutes'...

...and some supporting documents.

'MINUTES':

1. All BOE members were present.

2. Superintendent Andrea Evers cited some "Examples of Excellence", commenting that "A lot of neat things are going on."

3. Regina Brown was not present. No one asked to address the BOE.

4. All seven items were approved with one motion and vote. There were no questions or discussion.

5 & 6. Superintendent Evers once again read from the "Board Biz" handout in the BOE packets and I did not try to keep up.

She did mention that the anticipated enrollment for the 2016-2017 School Year was 500. She described remodeling that took place in the CJSHS office. Also, she mentioned that the new CJSHS Principal, Dr. Lisa Thomas, had been meeting with various groups. Registration will be conducted in the CJSHS cafeteria on August 4th (1 p.m. - 6 p.m.) and August 5th (8 a.m. - 3 p.m.)

The biggest news affecting teachers...

The Institute Day on August 11th will be a joint affair with Meridian, held at Meridian, not Cairo...so, no meeting with the new principal, no working in the rooms, getting ready for the first day of student attendance on August 12th.

The "teacher training" that will take place on August 11th is concerning Ruby Payne, noted for her focus on an understanding of the poverty culture. (I bet the tenured teachers of CSD #1 could teach Ruby (or her stand-in) a thing or two about teaching kids of poverty! I know...MEOW.)

The training (again, at Meridian) will begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at 3:30 p.m. (Nope, no back-to-school breakfast, although evidently lunch will be served. Don't hold your breath for prime rib!)

Oh, and there will be a cookout at both buildings at 5:30 p.m. for administration, teachers, staff, parents, and students. Y'all come!

7. Nothing more than on the agenda.

8. The BOE voted to enter closed session at 6:26 p.m. The BOE voted to exit closed session at 9:15 p.m. (BOE Member Vernon Stubblefield exited as they opened the door to admit the public.)

9. Requiring Action/Decisions By Board of Education:

10. No Old Business.

11. The BOE voted to adjourn at 9:28 p.m.
