RALPH T. STENGER APARTMENTS

This summer, with my steadily advancing age, I decided to get back into my morning walking routine...

...an exercise regimen that I terminated a few years back when downtown Commercial was truly the sink holes and crumbling buildings erroneously reported a while back.

Yes, it's still not a scenic walk, still depressing if you allow your mind to drift back to the day...

...before my home town became a place more suited to the home of song...

...where the buffalo roam, where the deer and the antelope play,

Anyway...

My chosen walking path meant that I routinely passed the Ralph T. Stenger Apartments:

As you may recall, a year ago, these apartments were in the news,
the tenants threatened with eviction, when the Cairo Delta Center announced that it was closing. Well, fortunately, that did not come to pass, as another agency stepped in and took over management of the apartments.

The past couple of weeks, my suspicions were raised when I noticed how high the grass had grown...

...prompting me to notice that the informational signs had been removed from the front doors.

Then, on Thursday, I noticed that a truck and some workers were in front of the apartments, unloading some equipment...

...and hoped for the best.

Well, yesterday, I came face-to-face with reality:

So sad...

...what with the acute need for social services in the City of Cairo...

...not to mention the shortage of decent housing...

...that these relatively new facilities now sit boarded up.

Left to crumble?

My morning walk just got even more depressing...
