PUBLIC HEARING & REGULAR BOE MEETING...AGENDAS PLUS

The Cairo Board of Education held its Rescheduled Regular Meeting on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at 6 p.m.

Immediately preceding that meeting (at 5:45 p.m.) the BOE conducted a Public Hearing on the 2017-2018 Budget.

The agendas for both meetings are below followed by some brief comments...



BOE members Coleman, Harris, Stubblefield, Gooden, and Nelson answered roll call.

Janiece Blake did the honors of presenting the budget overview.

The budget is a "balanced budget" where the revenues are predicted to exceed the expenditures.

The sheet below under "Adopted Budget Explanation" shows the areas where the District is cutting expenditures...

...along with an increase of $173,000 in General State Aid due to the recently adopted new school funding formula:



The Public Hearing was adjourned at 5:59 p.m.

The Rescheduled Regular BOE Meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.

BOE member Rodney Moore arrived at 6:05 p.m.




District enrollment stands at 388, down considerably from last year at this time.

The BOE voted to enter Closed Session at 6:33 p.m. The BOE voted to exit Closed Session at 7:10 p.m.

The BOE voted to hire Robert Newell as Cairo Jr/Sr High School PE Teacher.

The BOE voted to approve the 2017-2018 Budget.

The BOE voted to approve the EIS Administrative and Teacher Salary & Benefits Report.

There will be a Special Meeting on October 11th at 5:30 p.m. for the purpose of hiring the Cairo High School Boys Basketball Coach.

The BOE voted to adjourn at 7:14 p.m.
