CAT Tracks for August 16, 2018

The Cairo Board of Education held its Regular Meeting on Thursday, August 16, 2018, at 6 p.m.

BOE Members Present: Coleman, Harris, Stubbhlefield, Gooden, Nelson. (Moore arrived at 6:14 p.m.)

Examples of Excellence: CES Principal Regina Brown reported on data use by teachers from MAP testing. She also reported that CES currently had 144 students, not including Pre-K. CJSHS Principal Lisa Thomas reported on goals for the building. She also reported that CJSHS currently had 113 students.

Superintendent Andrea Evers stated that the Regular BOE Meeting in September would be moved from the 20th to the 18th.

The BOE voted to enter Closed Session at 6:26 p.m. The BOE voted to exit Closed Session at 9 p.m.

Requiring Action/Decisions By Board of Education:

  • Approved resignations listed on agenda.
  • Approved athletic hirings. (See list below.)
  • Approved hiring of Amanda Knowles as band teacher.
  • Approved placing the 2018-2019 Budget on file.
  • Approved all union contracts listed on the agenda. (Teacher Aide and Custodial contracts were for 3 years; CAT contract was for one year.)
  • Approved raise and benefits for non-certified employees listed on agenda, except Truancy.
  • Set substitute teacher rate of pay at $100 per day, $115 per day after 15 consecutive days in the same position. (See handout below.)
  • Added an Item #9: Develop a growth and mentoring plan for CJHS/CHS.
  • Added an Item #10: Seek bids for new Driver's Education vehicle.

    There will be a Special Meeting on August 28th: Superintendent's Performance Standards/Evaluation.

    The BOE voted to adjourn at 9:14 p.m.
