A BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATERS |
Actually, it's not the waters that are troubling, although they (the Mighty Mississippi) certainly caused their share of headaches and heartaches this past summer (and other assorted seasons), it's the rickety old US 60/62 bridge at Cairo.
This bridge is regularly reduced to one lane or closes for months at a time for inspections and repairs.
In fact, a while back, the US 60/62 Mississippi River Bridge closed for an extended period (months, a year?) after vehicles ignored a previous attempt at weight restrictions. But, here we go again. What's the old adage/definition about doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results?
Hmmm...
...maybe instead of borrowing a song title from Simon and Garfunkel, I should have gone country with Patsy Cline & Willie Nelson. (Crazy)
Oh, well...
Beginning October 24th, hell, beginning NOW, maybe you should avoid this bridge altogether. I mean, there is the I-57 bridge. At the very least, if you spot a monster truck on or approaching the bridge, you might want to wait and see if s/he makes it before venturing forth (trusting that there isn't a delayed reaction.)
Bon Voyage!
